Crime Victims Assistance Center, Inc. Counselor in Binghamton, New York

Job purpose

The counseling department at Crime Victims Assistance Center serves individuals who have been a victim of; any crime, domestic violence, sex trafficking, child sexual abuse, sexual assault and/or a witness to violence. With the recent expansion of our agency, we seek to a hire full time counselor to provide short term counseling for the individuals we serve.

Duties and responsibilities

o Provide short term counseling
o Maintain the confidentiality of all clients
o Enter case information in client database and maintain updated records
o Advocacy and accompaniment as needed
o Some case management as needed
o Provide information/referrals to clients to assist them in meeting their needs
o Responsible for a relative number of hours of on-call each month

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in social work or counseling (license eligible).
• One year of counseling experience in a human services setting. (Internship work may be considered if applicable.
• A sound knowledge of victimization issues, a general knowledge of various treatment modalities (e.g. trauma treatment models, domestic violence treatment models).
• Must complete 40 hour rape crisis counselor training and an additional ten hours of ongoing, professional education each subsequent calendar year.

Working conditions

The work is highly confidential and sensitive in nature. Occasional work evenings and weekends is required (on call).

Physical requirements

This position lends itself to a sitting, walking, and some occasional light lifting.
