Secretary I - Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies - The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that helps lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) people in Upstate New York achieve their goals of building and sustaining healthy families. The Project is headquartered in Binghamton, NY and was established in 2000 with a grant from the New York State Health Department. The Project provides educational programs and training, information and referral services, support groups and the Directory of LGBTQ-Inclusive Services. The Project also sponsors the Pride and Joy Family network, which offers events, support and a sense of community to hundreds of LGBTQ parents and their children in upstate New York.
Duties -
Answers phones and responds or directs to appropriate staff member
Responds to walk-ins at office
Maintains administrative and program files
Organizes, inventories, orders/purchases office and program supplies
Maintains, updates database of clients, service providers, community resources
Provides reports and mailing labels to program staff
Sends email blasts, bulk and direct mailings
Does social media postings and website updates
Prepares financial reports
Keeps track of budget balances
Receives bills/invoices and processes for payment
Makes room/space/conference call reservations
Processes travel vouchers, travel requests
Maintains contacts lists
Keeps records of LGBTQ* - inclusive providers
Assists with outreach efforts, including social media posts
Assists with event and conference planning and production, including registration systems
Other duties as required
Qualifications -
High School diploma required. Associate degree preferred and one or more years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. As an LGBTQ organization, we value life experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Access and Excel spreadsheet software, and web-based social networking sites such as Facebook.
Knowledge of Binghamton University systems (payment processing, space reservations) a plus
LGBTQ cultural competency/ familiarity with LGBTQ issues
Friendly, welcoming, helpful attitude
Highly organized
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
